Treadfest organisers have touted Young DLC as one of “Africa’s hottest emerging electronic dance music producers and DJs”. And indeed the 21-year-old Pretoria based producer is making a name for himself across the continent.
Originally from Harare –Zimbabwe, Young DLC produced and collaborated on a song called “Be My Girl” with Sylent Nqo, a fellow Zimbabwean guitarist and musician. The song won many hearts in Eastern Cape when it was playlisted on Algoa FM early in the year. Be My Girl went on to spend a good 15 weeks on the AlgoaFM Top 30 charts, where it peaked at number 5. This was Young DLC’s first project to be submitted on any South African radio station, outside of his Coke Studio projects.
Young DLC has previously released an international single, “Don’t Stop” which was published by a Netherlands record label.
Young DLC recently returned from a three month of music making in Nairobi, Kenya where he was part of the Coke Studio Africa music production team. Not only did he work with some of Africa’s hottest artists and producers, but he made history for being the only Zimbabwean to be the Africa’s biggest musical show production team.
Speaking to Mzansi Fresh, Young DLC said,”I never thought the song would really do well to that level. But with the feedback we are getting, it indeed shows that people love the music. We have been playlisted on a couple of radio stations even in Botswana”
Young DLC’s manager, Tendai Joe said the Electronic Dance Music producer is working on some of the most exciting projects and collaborations in South Africa and across the continent.
